People ask me: ‘Why Aren’t Your Books More Like (insert name of random author here)’
To put a little twist on Elizabeth Barrett Browning's famous sonnet: 'How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways'. Apparently, if you're a writer, for every person that tells you how much they like your books, there's at least a few that freely express their opinions about why you're a loser.
Is it frustrating? At times. Does it hurt my feelings? Not particularly.
It's the COMPARISONS that sometimes shock me. Apparently some readers think that what they like in one genre - your style, your voice, your point of view - necessarily translates to others.
'You're no Stephen King.' OK, but he writes horror, not thrillers.
'I like Rebecca Yarros' books better than yours.' Yes, she's a talented and popular writer of fantasy and contemporary romance. Not exactly my jam.
'Colleen Hoover is so much better than you.' Another uber-successful author that specializes in young and new adult romances. Other than the fact that we both write in English, I don't think there are any parallels.
So who do I compare myself to? Actually, I try never to compare myself to ANYONE, but to help potential readers relate my books to other popular works and authors that they may be familiar with, I'll say that my 'Jessica Jansen Thriller' series has vibes similar to David Baldacci, James Patterson, J.D. Robb, and Patricia Cornwell.
Similarly, 'Let the Truth Be Told', my debut novel, is a political action thriller (aka, spy novel) that would appeal to fans of writers like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Brad Thor, and Vince Flynn.
They say that 'comparison is the thief of joy', so I try to tune all of that out. Or at least I do until that blessed day comes when someone says they love my books and they compare my writing favorably to David Baldacci or Robert Ludlum. I'll be on Cloud Nine:)

I’m hard at work (OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I AM working) on the next book in the ‘Jessica Jansen Thriller’ series. This one is once again set in California, primarily in the beautiful Carmel/Monterey and Big Sur areas. The working title is ‘The PCH Murders’ (for those not familiar, ‘PCH’ is short for Pacific Coast Highway) and it finds JJ and Kristyn investigating a suspicious fatal car accident on PCH near Big Sur and possible ties to a series of targeted bombings attributed to several neo-Nazi and Christian Nationalist groups. The release is planned in time for your holiday shopping. Stay tuned for more.
PS: Interested in being a BETA READER for The PCH Murders when I’m ready? This would be after I finish the first draft and go through the first few rounds of self-edits, probably by mid-summer. What’s involved with being a Beta Reader? You just need to commit to read the book and provide open/honest feedback about the story, any gaps or ‘continuity’ issues you may have seen, what works/what doesn’t work, etc. It’s not about being an ‘English teacher’ and catching all the typos though I will GLADLY take those as well:)

His characters are well-developed and relatable, and they each have a distinct personality of their own. While the Murder Game is scarily plausible, you can't put it down - the story and Sonny's masterful writing style create intrigue and anticipation of what will come next! Hudson Raises the Bar! Having immensely enjoyed Let The Truth Be Told, I opened The Murder Game with great anticipation and was thrilled all the way through. Great character development and page-turning action sequences - but it was the plot that drives the reader onward. Starting with the mysterious airport episode and culminating in the diabolical scheme - I couldn’t stop reading!
